If you’re like me, you don’t think much about world affairs until someone stands up and talks about how bad things really are. I am thankful for those people who take the time to notice. Earlier I talked about the Plastic Island in the Pacific, since it ultimately affects each and everyone of us. We have a lot or work to do all over, but as the oceans cover most of the earth’s surface, it’s as good a place to dwell as any.
According to the article I read by ecolife, an estimated 80% of the garbage in this garbage patch comes from land-based sources. Also, when you throw your gum wrapper or plastic cup onto the street, it can end up in the stormwater system and be washed out to sea. Both of these things seem so small but they make a difference. And you and I can make a difference too.
We can pickup garbage whenever we see it and properly dispose of it and remember to tuck our recyclables snugly into their bins so that they don’t blow away. These are small things but they can make a difference, if we only will do them.
Don’t be concerned that your effort is too small….every flame a flicker and every forest fire a flame. The mighty, majestic oak was once a small acorn. Even in spreading the good news of the gospel, we are reminded in I Corinthians 3 that there are those who plant seeds and those who water along the way. God will give the increase in His due time if we walk in accordance with His will.
The earth is gift from God Himself to you and me….to all of us. Cherish it, love it, take care of it………one step at a time. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither of turning.” James 1:17. KJV
